I've been having this conversation with my friend group for the last few months! You can genuinely feel everyone grasping for the freedom to just express themselves and dance with their hair down.

Maybe that's it. That's why modern internet culture is soaking in nostalgia, because we desperately want to go back to such a time.

HARD RELATE. It feels as if the only cultural artefact Gen Z owns is internet memes and vernacular. Unlike millennials or boomers, who are not just a demographic but a culture, a way of thinking. Gen Z is just reduced to internet jokes.
Having said that, maybe this is the genesis of true Gen Z culture?

As an old millenial/late GenX, I barely understand many of the references, but I still can relate to the feeling. It has been a tough decade...
